On Tuesday, Xceedium Inc. won Infosecurity Products Guide magazine’s 2011 Best Customer Deployment Award.

The award comes for Xceedium’s work in providing DHS with privileged access management solutions.

To help DHS ensure that its networks are accessed by only approved users, Xceedium, a manufacturer of access control systems, has provided the agency with its GateKeeper system.

GateKeeper allows government agencies and businesses to enforce access control on vendors, contractors, and other users on computer networks. The system is capable of limiting a user’s access to only the information and resources that they require. In addition the system also monitors a user’s actions and records their activities to create a transparent trail in accordance with government security regulations.

“From a security standpoint, it is an unfortunate truth that employees are often the weakest link in the IT infrastructure,” wrote Sally Hudson, an analyst with IDC, in a case study.

“GateKeeper protects critical infrastructure without leaving any footprint on the network and requires no client-side installation but only a Web browser. The appliance has increased security awareness training (at DHS), handles remote access security functions, enforces least privilege, is scalable and dropped into the infrastructure without affecting the holistic process in place,” she added.

Aside from DHS, GateKeeper has also been deployed on networks in both the private and public sector in industries that include financial services, retail, and healthcare.

“Today, nearly half of all network threats come from insiders and it’s the biggest reason why many blue-chip corporations and government agencies such as DHS rely on Xceedium’s GateKeeper to manage privileged insider network access and protect against both internal and external threats,” explained Glenn Hazard, the CEO of Xceedium.

Xceedium is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia and was recently named the best overall IT company of the year by Network Products Guide.
