The acquisition of disaster recovery company XOsoft will expand Computer Associates’s data protection services

Privately held Waltham, Massachusetts-based disaster recovery software maker XOsoft has been acquired by Islandia, New York-based Computer Associates (CA). Details of the deal have not been disclosed, but the acquisition will position CA to offer its thousands of customers XOsoft’s recovery management products which are used to minimize the amount of time applications are down and aim to help companies recover data with minimal loss. “CA has 300,000 customers. We will now offer them a full suite of recovery management products to solve customers’ needs, from continuous data protection and snapshot management to vaulting and everything in between,” says Bob Davis, senior vice president and general manager of storage business for CA.

Along with the 1,600 customers XOsoft is bringing to the table, they will also provide CA with proprietary technology: assured software and soft installation technologies. Xosoft’s assured software reduces the time and cost of disaster recovery testing, and their soft installation offers the ability to install software without needing to reboot systems.
