Cernium's video analytics to protect San Diego light rail

Developer of the Perceptrak system teams up with Electro Specialty; rail seen a major challenge for security planners; company is also expert in protecting airports

The last time we heard from St. Louis, Missouri-based Cernium Corporation, a developer of intelligent video analytics for behavior recognition, it had just teamed up with Atlanta, Georgia-based VistaScape Security Systems, a specialist in automated wide-area surveillance software, to offer advanced surveillance solutions to airports. Now it has made another similar arrangement, joining forces with San Diego, California-based Electro Specialty Systems to protect that city’s expanding light rail system. “A rail system can be challenging to monitor because it is spread out over a large geographical area,” said Cernium’s Bruce Whitaker. The companies hope Cenuium’s Perceptrak’s video analytics system, is up to the task. “Perceptrak provides the technical tools to enhance a human security force and allows them to do their job more effectively and serve their customers better,” said Whitaker.
