Delta to install vehicle barriers at U.S. embassies worldwide

Shallow foundation system to be deployed to China, Austria, Saudia Arabia, and various cities in Germany, among others; more than 1,000 have already been sold; U.S. Air Force plans to use same to protect all of its bases around the world

The last time we heard from Palmdale, California-based Delta Scientific, the company had just installed its DSC 1100 barriers — 108-inch rising plates that can stop a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling forty miles per hour — at the U.K. embassy in Budapest, Hungary. That was good news, but now that company has done even better. Delta Scientific announced this week that it had received a contract to install its DSC501 and DSC2000 shallow foundation barriers at U.S. embassies in Beijing, Sarajevo, Vienna, Greece, Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, and various cities in Germany. All told, more than 1,000 DSC501 counter-terrorist barriers have been installed around the world since the barrier first began shipping in 2001, and they will ultimately be used at every United States Air Force base in the world.

“Both of these barriers are K12 crash certified with no penetration, meaning they will stop 15,000 pound vehicles traveling 50 mph dead in their tracks,” said Delta’s David Dickinson. “In fact, the DSC501 is tested at K54 and stops a 65,000 pound traveling at the same speed. That’s 5.4 million foot-pounds of energy.” As for the DSC200, it is intended for use in high capacity locations and can go from the “down” to “up” position in less than one-half second — as many as 100,000 times each month. Both models also require much shallower foundations than rival systems, thereby obviating concerns about interference with underground pipes and wiring (not to mention installation costs).
