Motorola Solutions Venture Capital joins major existing investors in a $12 million new investment round in SST, Inc., developer of the ShotSpotter acoustic gunfire location and analysis system; the strategic investment aims to help expand the usage of ShotSpotter by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and globally in advancing next-generation 911 (NG911) capabilities and initiatives
Motorola Solutions, through its strategic investment arm Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, has invested in SST, Inc., provider of ShotSpotter, a solution for wide-area acoustic surveillance and gunfire location, alert, and analysis. SST says that ShotSpotter solutions, including the hosted, subscription-based service ShotSpotter Flex, are the only wide-area acoustic surveillance gunshot detection, alert, and analysis solutions in the world. ShotSpotter delivers gunfire data and actionable information that public safety and law enforcement agencies need quickly to respond to gunfire incidents. The company notes that, additionally, the technology enables these agencies to develop problem-oriented, data-driven policing strategies and tactical operations using real-time intelligence provided by ShotSpotter.
Motorola Solutions’ investment will be used to expand the usage of ShotSpotter by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and globally in advancing next-generation 911 (NG911) capabilities and initiatives.
Motorola Solutions joins major existing SST investors Lauder Partners, Levensohn Venture Partners, Claremont Creek Ventures, CityLight Capital, and The Westly Capital in this new financing of $12 million for SST. Motorola Solutions’ investment includes a North American reseller agreement between Motorola and SST which will support the expansion of NG911 services and technologies to law enforcement agencies throughout North America.
“Technology such as SST’s ShotSpotter provides public safety agencies the crucial information they need to efficiently respond to incidents, investigate more effectively and use the data analysis to create improved strategies and deployments,” said Reese Schroeder, managing director of Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. “For a technology company dedicated to helping people be their best in the moments that matter, this investment is a natural fit that has the potential to benefit public safety agencies around the world.”
“The negative impact of gun violence continues to challenge far too many communities throughout the world, and law enforcement agencies and city hall leadership are compelled to respond to better protect their communities,” said Ralph Clark, president and CEO of SST, Inc. “The gunfire data and analysis provided by SST provides unique and valuable situational intelligence and is a crucial component in helping police and law enforcement be more proactive in addressing gun violence incidents. We’re excited to partner with Motorola Solutions in bringing this technology innovation to more law enforcement agencies and integrating that valuable information into their public safety and NG911 initiatives.”
