New Jersey company uses its Ygiene formulation to kill anthrax spores on contact; formulation killed all anthrax spores exposed to the formulation in as little fifteen seconds

Good news on the anthrax front. Newark, New Jersey-based BioNeutral announced the results of tests utilizing its Ygiene formulation to kill anthrax spores on contact. This chemical technology is designed to be used by the military and first responders in the event of suspected anthrax exposure. “The Ygiene formulation killed all anthrax spores exposed to the formulation in as little 15 seconds,” said Dr. Philip Tierno, the principal investigator on the project. Tierno is the director of clinical microbiology and diagnostic immunology at Tisch Hospital, New York University Medical Center. “This is an extraordinary result given the heartiness and particular difficulty in eradicating anthrax spores. The test compared results with a 10% solution of chlorine bleach which required almost 100 times the contact time to achieve the same test result. I expect this chemical technology will be used in applications which will prove beneficial, even life saving, in hospitals and other healthcare settings.”

Dr. Andy Kielbania, chief scientist for BioNeutral, said, “We are currently continuing our corrosive and stability testing. As demonstrated by these exceptional results our combinational technology platform allows us to develop formulations that can deliver active ingredients with exceptional speed and pinpoint efficacy.” Raj Pamnani, a member of the Board of Directors, said, “We look forward to introducing this technology to the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and city and state task forces on bioterrorism.”
