San Antonio-based company will provide system architecture for a biometrics port management system; one of “the largest deployments ever undertaken”

The motto of the Dominican Republic, “Dios, Patria, Libertad”, may need to be updated by tacking “seguridad” on the end. San Antonio, Texas-based MDI — known for selling security solutions to such varied customers as John Deere, Pepsi, FBI, and Fidelity Investments — this week announced that it had won a contract to track cargo and transportation worker activity between selected free trade zones and an unnamed major port in the Dominican Republic. The effort is part of a major overhaul being conducted by the Red Nacional De Transporte Terreste (RNTT) to bring manufacturers, shippers, and port and government workers into a seamless shipping and security regime overseen by MDI’s software platform — a major element of which is an initiative much like America’s WHTI to capture photographs, fingerprints, and other critical identifying information. “In regards to data collection and management reporting, the potential long-term scale of this program is unprecedented and could rival the largest deployments ever undertaken by any access control manufacturer in history,” said MDI’s J. Collier Sparks.
