Those interested in the ongoing controversy over the REAL-ID Act could do worse than to visit the National Conference of State Legislators’s Web site. The group, of course, is thoroughly opposed to the act, which its members view as an $11 billion unfunded mandate, but the site is not the less interesting for it. It includes a series of documents covering the history of the REAL-ID Act, the status of current legislation — including a searchable database of action at the state level — links to critical studies, an archive of related news stories, and a countdown clock that ominously ticks down the minutes until the bill goes into effect.
