Seen & heard on the floorClayton Consultants on kidnapping and ransom

Published 22 September 2009

In many developing countries, kidnapping the family members of rich individuals and then asking for ransom has become a small industry; a specialist offers ideas about what to do to prevent kidnapping — and deal with it when it happens

Ricardo Parlade, vice president of business development at Herndon, Virginia-based Clayton Consultants, a Triple Canopy company and global crisis management consultancy, will speak today about kidnapping and ransom negotiations.

Clayton Consultants specializes in the resolution of kidnap for ransom and extortion cases worldwide. Parlade will present case studies of kidnappings from Mexico, Nigeria, and the Gulf of Aden. He will also review various types of kidnapping practices, and discuss prevention techniques and survival tactics.

The risk of being kidnapped is dramatically increasing in hotspots around the world and kidnapping trends continue to vary from region to region,” said Triple Canopy CEO Iggy Balderas. “This is an opportunity for security directors attending the ASIS seminar to learn more about our pre-incident training services and what we can do to assist their organizations and families in the event of a kidnap.”

Clayton Consultants gained a name for itself as a specialist in the prevention and resolution of kidnaps for ransom, extortion, malicious product tampering, wrongful detention, and workplace violence. Triple Canopy acquired Clayton Consultants in 2007. Triple Canopy provides assessments, training, crisis management, protective and support services to governments, private corporations, and non-governmental organizations worldwide.
