All German casinos now use the company’s FaceSnap/FaceCheck facial recognition system; technology identifies cheats and known troublemakers; Casino Esplanade in Hamburg the latest to beef up its operations

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida-based Cross Match Technologies, not content with its success in the HSPD-12 market, has installed its FaceSnap/FaceCheck facial recognition system at the Casino Esplanade in Hamburg, Germany. Facial recognition technology is important to casino operators because it allows them to quicky identify known trouble-makers and cheats. In Las Vegas, for instance, authorities used to have to memorize a paper “black book” containing such names, but now in many cases recognition technology does most of the work, leaving security to confirm the software’s match. German casino operators now have the same luxury: the FaceSnap/FaceCheck system is now in use at all of the country’s casinos, including those in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony.

In addition to being used in German casinos, FaceSnap/FaceCheck is currently in use by Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) as part the agency’s Photo Search Warrant project, now in operation at the main railroad station in Mainz.
