Irish company joins Sagem and Accenture to develop the Biometric Matching System; deal is said to be Daon’s largest to date; 70 million Europeans will submit fingerprints

Before the Christmas holiday we reported that Paris, France-based Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) had won a French government contract to develop the country’s new biometric visa processing system that would connect to the future European Visa Information System (VIS). We can now report on another VIS-related contract to a consortium of Sagem, Accenture, and Ireland-based Daon to develop the fingerprint matching database undergirding VIS known as the Biometric Matching System. Under the deal, which is said to be Daon’s latest to date, the Irish company will provide the software to manage the BMS, which will store fingerprints of up to 70 million visa applicants. No further details were available at press time, but please watch this space for further updates.
