Digital agency Origin Partners has unveiled details of a new application developed for Android tablet devices that can minimize dangerous and costly errors in food preparation.

Developed for Donegal, Ireland-based firm Kelsius, which designs and manufactures temperature and task management systems for the food and healthcare sectors, FoodCheck is a new HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point) tablet application which automates the process of controlling and monitoring food by using wireless temperature monitoring.

Paddy Hearty, director of sales at Kelsius said: “Origin Partners has helped us deliver a system which could be a game-changer. We are already beginning to implement FoodCheck with a number of leading food service providers in Ireland, such as Gala and the Clarion Hotel Group, and there are a number of trials underway in France at a large supermarket chain. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Designed to align with strict Food Standards Agency (FSA) processes, FoodCheck offers managers real-time visibility of compliance and immediate non-conformance alerts. The system is suitable for a range of businesses including convenience stores, restaurants, hotels, fast-food outlets, or catering supply companies.

Origin Partners’ technical director, Jerry Staple said: “FoodCheck is positive news for everyone and gives new confidence to anyone working in the food production and preparation business. It enables business owners to carry out the once laborious checks and balances in a more efficient, consistent and traceable way.

“FoodCheck is a clever innovation that solves a clear industrial need and it also underlines just how far mobile is reaching into all aspects of modern living. The majority of our new projects involve a mobile element and there is an interesting mix of business and consumer applications across platforms such as IOS and Android. The development of FoodCheck pushed the Origin Partners development team right out of our comfort zone. However, we embrace challenges and need to
