ISIS has sent a death threat to India’s prime minister Narenda Modi, over his party’s support for a ban on eating beef.

The International Business Times reports that the warning was issued by the Islamist group after Modi announced his support for restrictions on the slaughter and consumption of cows in some Indian states. ISIS sent a letter to Modi, which states: “Since you are not allowing beef to be consumed, you will be taken care of.”

IBT notes that the postcard was sent to the Indian State secretariat, and was signed with an “IS,” and the Indian security services say there is credible evidence to support the assumption that it was send by ISIS. The security services have launched an official investigation into the origin of the letter has been launched.

Hinduism, the dominant religion in India, considers cows sacred and objects to the consumption of beef.

A similar death threat over the issue of beef consumption was sent on 12w January to the anti-terrorism squad in Pune and Mumbai.

We received a letter. We have sent the letter to Mumbai police for inquiry and we have asked the officers to be on alert,” said a senior ATS officer.
