TrendGrowing demand for women bodyguards

The last couple of years have seen a rapid growth in demand for female body guards; female CEO’s, celebrities, even domestic violence victims say they want protection without the obvious looming tall, hulking man standing next to them; security professionals say that women bring another dimension — that women’s intuition – to the task

It is said that the best type of bodyguards are the ones you do not realize are right in front of you. Women bodyguards can blend right into a crowd without being spotted by an attacker, and are often mistaken for a female companion, but these ladies can drop you with an elbow faster than you can try to shake someone’s hand.

Fox News reports that security agencies around the United States are reporting a rapid increase in requests for female executive protection specialists who are trained in threat assessment, self defense, weapons, and tactics training.

Female CEO’s, celebrities, even domestic violence victims say they want protection without the obvious looming tall, hulking man standing next to them. Women also bring another skill to the table according to those in the field. “We tend to have a different instinct — that women’s intuition — we may tend to catch onto things that the typical male may not,” says one female bodyguard. Bodyguard Milica Filipovic says “We blend into the background until we need to, and then we come forward in the right moment”

Ex-military and law enforcement backgrounds are helpful according to recruiters, but not necessary. Good health, physical fitness, personal defense ability, and discretion are key in the field that can earn women protection specialists somewhere in the ballpark of $1,500 to $2,500 a day.

Harlan Austin, a bodyguard, added “Over the last 10 years, there has been an incredible increase. A lot of firms that I have constant communication with are constantly telling me that the requests for female executive protection specialists has doubled.”

When the economy goes in the tank, crime increases which include violence against employers who have to cut jobs, another example of why female protection agents have been hired recently. The agents Fox News talked with say no one should be fooled by their petite packaging — they can pack a pretty powerful punch, and make a good living doing it.
