IBM considers snatching up Verint

Moving into the analytics market, IBM eyes a nice prize; Verint has strong software, but Comverse’s ownership is depressing stock price

Now that IBM is in the analytics market — its recent announcement of its S3 digital surveillance technology being the most prominent example — it should come as no surprise that the computing giant is in interested in buying up related companies. Now, our readers know our aversion to trading in rumors, but when it involved such a big company, well, we cannot resist. It seems that first in IBM’s sights is Melville, New York-based Verint, whose voice analytic software seems far superior to the company’s corporate management. Verint, readers will recall, is largely owned by Comverse, now in thick of an options backdating scandal, and so rumormongering has it that the company is ripe for the plucking. With Verint sporting a current value of $1 billion, and second quarter sales up 23.5 percent to $92.3 million, this could be a good deal for everyone involved.
