San Diego, California-based ImageWare — famous for introducing biometrics to Mexican prisons and for its success with HSPD-12 — is back in the news with a $1.2 million contract to develop a “multi-biometric identity management prototype solution” for an undisclosed federal agency. The idea is to develop software that can support prototype devices already under development that can handle finger, face, and iris biometrics. ImageWare will also offer a full range of program management, professional services, and training.

Under the contract, ImageWare will make use of its flexible and technology agnostic IWS Biometric Engine platform for multi-biometric searching and matching. IWS allows users to biometrically search and match populations of unlimited sizes for identity confirmation. According to the company, searches can be 1:1 (verification), 1:N (identification), X:N (investigative) and N:N (population management). In addition to the modalities already named can support palm scan, finger vein, palm vein, hand geometry, DNA, signature, voice, and retina scanning.
