Sagem Défense Sécurité wins French visa contract

Ten-print capture the underlying technology; system will connect to the coming European Visa Information System; software provided by Atos Origin Intégration

Paris, France-based Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) has won a French government contract to develop the country’s new biometric visa processing system. Among the products Sagem will supply under the contract are: an AFIS1 with a storage capacity of several tens of millions of persons, more than 1000 ten-print data capture stations, border control stations, and software developed by Atos Origin Intégration. The system — expected to be deployed by the middle of 2007 will also contain a connection to the future European Visa Information System (VIS). Sagem’s contract follows a successful system test during the Biodev2 pilot project.
