TSA awards Rapiscan contract for testing of passenger imaging system

In the last two years, Rapiscan has moved aggressively into four inspection-and scanning-related market segments; TSA eager to test company’s technology

The Trasnportation Security Administration (TSA) has awardedTorrance, California-based Rapiscan Systems, the Security division of Hawthorne, California-based OSI Systems (NASDAQ: OSIS), an initial delivery order for Passenger Imaging systems at pilot locations and an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity Contract (IDIQ) with options up to $17 million. The agreement calls for Rapiscan Systems’ Secure 1000 Body Scanner to be deployed at a number of airport pilot locations. In September 2005 Rapiscan announced its first civilian aviation deployment at London’s Heathrow Airport. The systems are also in use at countless military and government sites both domestically and abroad.

Rapiscan’s products use X-ray and gamma-ray imaging and neutron and diffraction analysis. The company has seen its products growing in popularity in several markets, each of them poised for furter growth: Baggage and parcel inspection, cargo and vehicle inspection, hold baggage screening, and people screening. The company boasts an installed base globally of more than 50,000 security and inspection systems.
