Canada begins arming its border guards
A recent GAO report says the U.S.-Canada border is porous; Canada is beginning to do something about it on its side of the border by armings its border guards; numbers are still very small
A recent Government Accountability (GAO) report found the U.S-Canada border exceedingly porous. Canada is now doing something on its side of the border byarming its border guards. Public Safety minister Stockwell Day sayid the contingent of Canada Border Services guards who are stationed along the U.S.-Quebec border will include twenty-five newly trained armed guards. The Quebec guards completed their weapons training last Friday. Day said that every year more than two million travellers cross the border at Lacolle, which leads into New York state. The public safety minister said more than 400 agents are being trained to ensure that border crossings along the United States are no longer staffed by a single agent.
