Conrail buys Duos security solution for rail yard

Securing sprawling rail yards is difficult; it is also important because of the dangerous cargo which goes through or parked in these yards; a major rail operator buys intelligent video security system for its New Jersey operations

Intelligent video comes to rail transportation. CONRAIL, a major east coast railroad terminal and switching agent owned by CSX and Norfolk Southern, has selected surveillance and video analytics solution from Jacksonville, Florida-based Duos Technologies for a rail yard operated by CONRAIL in New Jersey. Duos will provide a turnkey system designed to enhance physical security and improve day to day operations by using state of the art surveillance cameras in combination with Praesidium, the company’s proprietary rule-based intelligent video. The solution will monitor critical areas of the yard, but also will provide operational support, such as automatic and intelligent monitoring of placement, actual locations, and movement of rail cars. Thus, the system will alert security officers of suspicious movements or people in the yard, but the system will automatically detect and alert when a rail car is positioned improperly on the track. Upon alert, the yard master will be able to assess the situation and respond accordingly thus preventing potential accidents or costly disruptions to operations.
