DHS, private industry in national IT emergency exercise

Most of the nation’s critical infrastructure is privately owned including the communication infrastructure, so DHS is going to test government-private industry coordination in the event of emergency

DHS will conduct a national exercise 6-10 February, code-named Cyber Storm, to test how well it works with other federal agencies and private IT companies to protect cybersecurity. The Information Technology Information-Sharing and Analysis Center will take part in the exercise to test its draft concept of operations for responding to cybersecurity incidents. “This will be the first-ever cyber-focused exercise for DHS,” the IT center stated on its Web site. Participating in Cyber Storm are Cisco Systems, Citadel Security Software, Computer Associates International, Computer Sciences, Intel, Microsoft, Symantec, and VeriSign. Cyber Storm also will involve government agencies.
