Digital Barriers acquires Zimiti, expands homeland security capabilities

The acquisition gives Digital Barriers access to Zimiti’s Unattended Ground Sensor (UGS) technology which is aimed at expanding Digital Barriers’ reach in the border control, critical infrastructure protection, and defense markets.
Analysts believe that the move complement’s Digital Barriers core video surveillance capabilities
In reference to the acquisition, Colin Evans, the managing director of Digital Barriers, said. “Zimiti has compelling, high-quality IP with a broad range of applications for the growing Unattended Ground Sensor market. The Zimiti team is engaged with customers on the development of next generation UGS capabilities and we share their belief that this technology will have strong potential in both the defense and security sectors.”
Evans added, “This fits very well with our own strategy and we look forward to working with them to continue the development of this technology and to introduce the resulting products to customers in the U.K. and overseas.”
Zimiti Ltd was founded in 2000 and is based in Cambridge. The purchase agreement will begin at £1.5 million but could increase to as much as £10 million if Zimiti meets certain operational and financial targets.
According to their website, Digital Barriers focuses “on counter-terrorism, cyber-security and specialist areas of defense” as well as helping clients “select, architect and deploy effective and proportionate solutions to enhance the physical and electronic security of high-profile, high-value potential targets.”
The company’s products and services are currently in use at airports, mass transit systems, and government buildings, and computer networks around the world.
