GE promotes Checkpoint of the Future in Europe

Published 21 March 2006

Maybe all roads lead to Rome, maybe not. GE Security (NYSE: GE), an innovator in computed tomography-based (CT) baggage screening for aviation, has unveiled its vision for airport passenger security checkpoints — what the company calls the Checkpoint of the Future. The company is putting an emphasis on implementing its vision in European airports, and for that purpose is displaying the technologies associated with the Checkpoint of the Future lab at Passenger Terminal Expo 2006 in Paris. GE Security is also introducing its latest trace detection portal, the EntryScan4, which is expected to be a component of the Checkpoint of the Future. Edwin de Wolf, general manager of GE Security’s homeland protection business in EMEA, says: “We are in discussions with major airports for establishment of the region’s first Checkpoint of the Future laboratory — a complete, real-world security lane to test and prove security technologies in line with emerging EU passenger screening regulations. We hope to be able to make a deployment announcement soon.”

Frost & Sullivan’s Matthew Farr notes that “Advanced explosives detection is currently only in widespread use for screening checked baggage, which leaves carry-on luggage and passengers mostly untouched by these technologies …. As the market leader in explosives detection, GE Security has shown again its ability to put forth advanced technologies, which will help secure commercial airline traffic around the world.”
