L-1's SecuriMetrics wins $71 million DoD biometrics contract
Robert LaPenta sees multi-modal capabilities —- iris, finger, and face in one — as the wave of the future
More good news — and is it ever bad? — for L-1 Identity Solutions. The industry heavyweight’s wholly-owned subsidiary, SecuriMetrics, has won a DoD contract worth as much as $71 million for the sale of its unique three-in-one (eye, finger, face) HIIDE (Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment) biometric recognition devices. “This contract further validates our belief that multi-modal recognition capabilities are the new standard for identity solutions and that the federal government is leading the way in this fundamental shift and adoption,” said L-1 CEO Robert LaPenta, noting that the contract had been expected earlier in the year, and that the company would be revising its expected second quarter earnings upwards as a result of the delay. The company is now raising revenue expectations for the first half of the year ending June 30, 2007 to $158 to $162 million compared to previous expectations of $153 to $155 million. The contract is with the U.S. Army’s Space Program Office.
