LaserCard receives $5.9 DHS order
Ongoing relationship with green card and border crossing programs continues to bear fruit for this focussed company
Here is a company with focus. Mountain View, California-based LaserCard — known in identity circles as a leading card manufacturer — has been in the news a lot over the past year. As we have reported, the company supplies the cards for Canada’s permanent resident program and Costa Rica’s national identity card program, among others, and has had some success in the Middle East as well. Here in the United States, however, it is best known for an ongoing relationship with DHS to supply LaserCard OMC optical memory cards for both the permanent resident, or green card, program, as well at the State Department’s border crossing, or laser visa, initiative. Last October, the company announced a $2.7 million purchase order on that front; last week, it announced an additional $5.9 million order through program subcontractor General Dynamics Information Technology. The effort has been lucrative: the company’s revenue from the two programs have averaged about $9.5 million annually over the past several years.
