Rotterdam’s transportation system beefs up security

The events in London last year, and in Mumbai a couple of days ago, offer a grim reminder of the vulnerability of mass transportation systems; the city of Rotterdam wants its transportation system to become less vulnerable

In London they commemorated last week the anniversary of the 7 July terrorist attack on the London subway. The Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET), a major mass transit operator providing services in the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands and its surrounding areas, two weeks ago signed an agreement with I-SEC Homeland Security B.V., (I-SEC HLS), a subsidiary of Amstelveen, The Netherlands-based ICTS International N.V.(NASDAQ: ICTS), a provider of advanced security services, to provide RET with security consulting services aiming to enhance the organization’s security and its preparedness to deal with terror attacks directed at the mass transit industry in general. I-SEC HLS was previously contracted by RET to conduct a comprehensive security survey of the organization, the results of which demonstrated that RET was well prepared to deal with a variety of safety-related emergencies. In view of the new phenomenon of security threats of terror attacks, RET has now decided to procure security consulting services from I-SEC HLS not only to enhance its level of security and preparedness, but to deal specifically with terror incidents.
