Installed for the 2004 Olympics, C4I system requires additional work; disagreement was headed for arbitration

Call of the dogs and kennel the lawyers. SAIC last week settled a contract dispute

with the Greek government over a €259 million security contract — a dispute that threatened to end up in mediation before the International Chamber of Commerce. Known as Command, Control, Communications, Coordination and Integration (C4I), the sensor-based system made a splash during the 2004 Athens Olympics, and the recent bad feeling — over a €4 million contract reduction claimed by Greece — involved SAIC’s on-going obligations to maintain and build out the system. Under the settlement, SAIC will install enhanced command and control software and upgraded coast guard boat video and port security sub-systems. In return, the Greek government agreed to accept a number of already completed sub-systems and make a €26 million payment in approximately thirty days.
