The Millennium Group and SoBran, Inc. announced yesterday an advanced mail security service that the companies say will help keep Wall Street and New York metro area businesses safe from mail terrorism. The joint venture, SafeMail New York, was established to respond to the FBI’s mail security warnings regarding the potential for mail terrorism attacks.

Mail and commercial deliveries, including freight, will be secured by SafeMail New York from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) threats prior to delivery to a customer. SafeMail New York will be located just outside of New York City to serve the city’s financial district. The mail facility will also support commercial organizations across the New York metro region.

The two companies say that SafeMail New York combines the mail security services of SoBran with the mail distribution services of the Millennium Group. SoBran has been in the mail security businessfor the last decade, helping the Government Services Administration (GSA) to define mail security standards, and securing mail for clients such as DHS.

“SafeMail New York was driven by requests from our customers,” said Timothy Kerner, CMDSM, president of the Millennium Group. “Many organizations, including financial services firms, have already found they are more effective by outsourcing document management. Now, with this heightened need for security, their mail security services can also be handled by trusted experts.”

“From Wall Street to Main Street, organizations urgently want to ensure mail security for their employees and facilities”, said Amos Otis, founder and president of SoBran Inc. “SoBran was brought in after the anthrax attacks to help secure government mail. With SafeMail New York, companies will have access to the same level of mail security services as a critical component of their business continuity plans.”

The 75,000 square foot mail facility that will house SafeMail New York is already providing document management solutions. SafeMail New York mail security services will be available in November.
