Siemens predicts more than 30% annual sales growth in biometrics

Siemens creates new unit — Solutons and Systems (SIS) — and its director is bullish about biometrics

Siemens (NYSE: SI) sees more than 30 percent sales growth a year in the biometrics business, Gerd Hribernig, head of the newly founded solutions and systems (SIS) unit told Die Welt. “The segment of official clients is one of our most important branches - and biometrics play an important role there,” he added. Within two to three years, the company wants to boost sales figures from biometric systems to the triple-digit million euros range, while sales now amount to a double-digit million euros figure, the paper said.

On 1 November 2005 Germany introduced the biometric passport, enabling detection of facial features. From 1 November 2007 onward, new passports will also be issued with a copy of the holder’s fingerprints.
