UAE is the third-largest oil exporter in OPEC; emirate wants to protect its oil and gas infrastructure

The
United
Arab Emirates has started implementing the first phase of a
$820 million project to protect its oil infrastructure, Emirates News Agency said,
citing the Critical National Infrastructural Authority’s director. The project,
known as DERA, will protect “all utilities and vital assets of Abu Dhabi,”
home to most of the country’s oil and gas reserves, the state-owned agency WAM
said. The United Arab Emirates is the third-largest oil exporter in the
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which produces 40 percent
of the world’s oil.
